So does replacing this plate actually make reverse work as it should (minus the horrible clunking sound)?

I have been avoiding the use of reverse any time I can. It is always a crap shoot whether or not I can get it to go in. Seems to be worse after it's been running for a while. When I do need it, I try to shift between forward and reverse while the T-Rex is still rolling and most times that works.

Unfortunately being a paraplegic means that I can't just get out and push it, or even roll it a little bit to get the reverse to go in.

I would love to solve this issue, but tearing that reverse assembly apart seems a bit daunting to me.

Can anyone tell me how big a job it really is and maybe post some pictures of the job?

Take a Saturday off and come to Florida and we can rebuild it. It is not hard to do, it just takes a little time. I just rebuit the reverse for JST2CRZY and it now shifts like a dream. Does yours leak? When is the last time you changed the fluid in it?

No leaks, it has made the clack, clack, clack noise ever since I've had it.

I bought it with 13,000 miles on the clock and have never changed the reverse oil myself (approx 7000 mi) so maybe that is the place to start.

Judging by the sound and functionality though, I think a rebuild might be the only way to get it working properly.

Any idea what it costs to rebuild one?

In mid 2005 Campagna redesigned the reverse plate to eliminate the clunking. You’re way past due for the oil change. You’re looking at about $150 in parts and 3-5 hrs of labor. The upgrade will make a world of difference!

Im interested.

Ive been successful with engaging in reverse/gear, only while in a slight roll. But it would be nice to shift into reverse/gear at a standstill.

Continue doing it the way you have been. Even with the "updated" backing plate you still have to be slightly rolling to go into reverse smoothly.

If Montreal ,Canada is closer come up north. Easy fix with my eyes close. Fix it ,it will work fine, the problem is usally between the stering wheel and the seat. Embarassed

This is what occure before you bought it.

i had the little nipple that goes into the trans snap off. (the little round ball thing). I tore the entire rear apart to get to it. I ended up being able to just go to lowes and size it up. It hasnt casued any issues since then though
