Hi ViperSSSS,

Welcome to the Southern California family. I like your "Superman" T on the nose.

You asked the question what is the opiminal RPM crusing range. I am going to assume that you have the factory gearing of 15/50. Very torquey and a kick in the a$$ when you punch the throttle. The downside is the engine has higher engine whine at freeway speed. At 65 MPH, the engine is cranking 5,000 PRM. A lot of 1400 T-Rexes change the front gear to a "17". I personally run 17/48. Of the 3 combinations that I have run, I like the latter one the best. It is more civil in city traffic and RPM is around 4,200 at 65. Not as much engine noise in your ears. At 17/48 I have "papered out" the top end to be 185MPH. Never had it to that speed and never want to drive at that insane speed on the streets.. My style of driving is mostly cruising until I get into the twisties in the mountains. Then I am like a kid in a candy store. What ever your style of driving, one thing for sure - it is totally addicting.

P.S. When you change the gearing ratios, you will need to change the speedhealer ratio in order to get the speedometer right.

I saw your T-Rex in pieces at Tha Shop. I hope everything is back together when we ride again! I think chiknfeet put a 17/48 in my rex but I didn't count. My problem is mostly off the line. I have to bring the RPMs up alot for it not to bog out or stall. This presents a little bit of a problem in traffic and on hills, but nothing a soft foot can't handle. I'm not sure if it would be that way stock or not. I rarely get out of 3rd gear on city streets. When I am on the freeway 5th or 6th is fine. I think you are taking your life in your hands going 100+ MPH on these sh*tty freeways we have, so I probably will never try. The guy I bought it from said he was clocked at 173 on a radar gun with 15/44.

I'm still not sure whether I like the "Super T" in the hood. It is embedded in the glass, so it lights up also. I was thinking of covering it with a carbon fiber or matte black stripe, but I am not sure yet.

Now is there a speedohealer already on the rex? I have seen conflicting reports of this.

Welcome ViperSSSS!!!! I don't know if you got my voicemail message, but your 1st ride looked like a lot of fun. Wish I could have joined you guys. Great looking ride you got there. Looks like the Cali Crew is starting to represent more. Hope to join you and the others soon.

Carl

I gave you a call back and left a message. Not sure you got it. I am sure we will meet up soon!

Welcome aboard Viper. Glad you finally got to experience the thrill of driving a T-rex.

Thank you again for the air scoop! I looked at your pictures soooo many times cause I was excited to get my rex on the road. Do you have the paint code for the blue?

Great Video , I'm way jealous ,,,,it is so nasty here in Ky right now. I used to live in San Bernadino when I was growing up and really miss that fine weather. I did the exhaust , flies, power commander on the Viper SS Rex. It was very fast when I had it. Still a beautiful ride ....enjoy it.....

Yeah, I'm sure the weather here beats the hell out of KY! Your old rex was in good hands. The guy kept it looking virtually brand new. I need to ask him how he did that. The performance upgrades are great. The only problem is the rex backfires a lot! The guy did a custom map from the front seat, but I do have your map too. It seems like his map is running way rich. It made Muggz turn green while he was behind me. Is your map set up for the upgrades? Did you dyno it for your map or what? I wonder why he messed with it. Did you have the "Super T" done or did he? Thanks for all the upgrades!

-----------------------------------------------------

It looks like rain and inclimate weather for the weekend, so I guess the ride is off... We sure had some great weather for the ride last weekend though!

All 2007 and later models have a speedhealer. Speed is calculated from the VSS. Older model T-Reses have a spedometer cable to the front wheel.

lets get it on the dyno asap... i looked at map ZX14_Muzzy_no_butterflies.djm its running pretty fat and all 3 map are very conservative. also we can adjust pedal to change the release point to help with take off we just need to remove the nose to do so.
lets talk tomorrow.

It's all good! BANG! POP! BANG! I will leave it with you next time we come up. I was seriously thinking about the Power Commander 5 with Autotune. Anyone here have or know or anyone with the PC5 w/Autotune on their T-Rex?

Do you have the software that tunes the PC with your dyno, or is that not necessary? I was reading a bit too much about it!

I gotta get the carbon fiber kit before the PC5 though.

Hi Viper SS , yes my wife and i spent alot of awesome miles in that Rex...I have had alot of toys over the years and the Trex was her favorite. On the tune ...It always popped just a little but ran awesome never any richness. Chickenfeet is right it needs to be tuned there . Any tune from our area would probably not be correct for your Altitude there. I just got a white 09 like Chickenfeets but the weather is too nasty to get it out........So you guys enjoy and I will just go offroading till I can get the white rocket out.......

Chicknfeet has install the PC5 on his 2009 and he has install one on my 2007. We both have Area P mufflers. His is 12", mine are 14". I am assumming that the exhaust pipe diameter is the same. I have block off plates, he does not.

Regardless, he will have maps that are very close to your T-Rex. I had the PCIII and the same problem as you with the backfiring. Backfiring occurs because of to much rich mixture. With the PC5 with the oxygen sensor, I believe the problem will be greatly reduced. Just giving you my $.02 worth.

pop'n comes from un-burnt fuel that's why you tend to hear it in deceleration. I use the pc5 and have the software to tune is (its a free download) I have NOT hook up my auto tune (yet) this weekend it will be added sense I purchased the same exhaust as yours (I hope it shows up tomorrowo) however sense I have a dyno I hooked up our wideband 02 and tuned that way only because it was a lot easier than welding the 02 bung in.

My wife loves the T-Rex also. Did you install block off plates on this one? I am not sure if it has them. I was surprised how nice chicknfeet's white looked. It looks especially great with the black HRE rims.

I was told by DynoJet that they use "special" software to automatically tune the PC at their certified tuning stations. I don't think any of the certified station can handle a T-Rex though. Not being too familiar with dyno operation, I don't know if it matters. I guess we can use the same map since you will have the same exhaust. Can you shoot me the map after you tune yours with the new exhaust? I think it can be converted to PC3 with some effort.

Looks like a good weekend for a project, not a ride...

I will send you a base map; however we should put it on the dyno. the tuning is super easy - all you can change is fuel trim - add fuel take away fuel... unlike the GTR EVO and STI as you can tune for things like Low Det High Det Fuel, Ignition timing, Boost, Boost cut, Max Wastegate Duty, MAF Sensor, Scaling Correction, Wastegate Duty and many more Engine Parameters.

So I think we should spend and hr or two on the dyno Smile BTW our dyno is a pre-load dyno which doesn’t give great HP numbers but it makes a world of difference when it comes to tuning, the dyno dynamics simulates real world road conditions and we can pull the AFR at the same time. I think once we lean it out you will be a bit more happy and by the way it may and I say may correct some of the popping due to less un-burnt fuel. I think that’s why I don’t get the amounts off popping that SexyRex does – the only difference between or setup is I have dyno tuned but my map did stay conservative.
