Do you mean that my new dash will be here and totally painted, stereo and speakers hooked up, cruse control working, and LED lights installed (which have not been order yet)? -- Are you sure you haven't been smokin' some of that funny weed or sniffing airplane glue? If you can do that by next weekend, you are more powerful than God. You would be the MAN.

Once that &#^%(#!@ cruise control is dialed in, the rest will be a piece of cake. I have itchy fingers and itchy feet - can't wait to get into the cockpit and ROMP _________________ 2007 T-Rex 1400R - BMW Laguna Seca Blue -Turbo Powered

We had a great first time experience in the rex thanks to chicknfeet, (soon to be) mrs. chicknfeet, and muggz! It was a blast to FINALLY drive this thing! I really can't say enough about how I appreciate what Tha Shop and chicknfeet have done in bringing the rex back to life. I drove it all day Sunday also. The weather was perfect both days!
I will give you some of my first impressions about driving the T-Rex. First, I am a driver that is always aware of my surrounding, so it was very difficult to get use to not being able to see anything around me. I felt like I could only see forward until I got use to using the limited side mirrors and looking over my shoulder frequently. Plus, you are very low, so in traffic you can't see anything around you and it is a bit intimidating changing lanes and pulling out into traffic. This is somewhat like my Viper, but you do sit a bit lower. The transition into my daily driver (Hummer H2 with 6" lift) is pretty extreme. The other thing that kind of surprised me is the loud clank when shifting. I thought something was wrong with the thing, but chicknfeet assured me that the noise was normal. There is also the very loud whine from the transmission while driving. Almost as loud as the engine and exhaust combined. Those were the things that I point out because I am a highly critical person.
I quickly forgot about those things as the fun of driving the beast overwhelmed me. This was a different experience than anything I have ever driven. To me, it is like a go cart on steroids. The T-Rex definitely makes you feel like a kid again. When you get on the throttle and bring up the RPMs this thing halls ass and it feels two times faster due to sitting so low. It's great fun and I would imagine it's the closest thing to an F1 or Indy car. I also could not believe all the attention and looks of envy that you get. I am not one that usually likes to stand out so much, but it became fun watching all the people watch us.
I have never owned a four cylinder car before, so it's definitely a different feel than a torquey v8 or v10. I kept bogging the engine out at low RPM so it makes an awful knocking noise. I have to work on keeping the RPM up a bit. What is the best RPM range to "cruise" at with this thing?
Thanks again to EVERYONE on this forum! I read most every post before buying the T-Rex. I hope to meet more of you soon!
And YES, my wife is AWESOME! ...and much more photogenic than I. _________________ 2007 Blue T-Rex 1400R

Hi ViperSSSS,
Welcome to the Southern California family. I like your "Superman" T on the nose.
You asked the question what is the opiminal RPM crusing range. I am going to assume that you have the factory gearing of 15/50. Very torquey and a kick in the a$$ when you punch the throttle. The downside is the engine has higher engine whine at freeway speed. At 65 MPH, the engine is cranking 5,000 PRM. A lot of 1400 T-Rexes change the front gear to a "17". I personally run 17/48. Of the 3 combinations that I have run, I like the latter one the best. It is more civil in city traffic and RPM is around 4,200 at 65. Not as much engine noise in your ears. At 17/48 I have "papered out" the top end to be 185MPH. Never had it to that speed and never want to drive at that insane speed on the streets.. My style of driving is mostly cruising until I get into the twisties in the mountains. Then I am like a kid in a candy store. What ever your style of driving, one thing for sure - it is totally addicting.
P.S. When you change the gearing ratios, you will need to change the speedhealer ratio in order to get the speedometer right. _________________ 2007 T-Rex 1400R - BMW Laguna Seca Blue -Turbo Powered

Great Video , I'm way jealous ,,,,it is so nasty here in Ky right now. I used to live in San Bernadino when I was growing up and really miss that fine weather. I did the exhaust , flies, power commander on the Viper SS Rex. It was very fast when I had it. Still a beautiful ride ....enjoy it..... _________________ If it is real fast...It is not fast enough...When it gets too fast....I am getting too old. |
