Man they wont register my T-Rex here in HI!!!!
1st: They were looking for the motor vehicle certification label, The label must contain the following statement: “This vehicle conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards in effect on the date of manufacture shown above.”

I can't find this on my T-Rex. Any one have this label?

2nd: DMV said accocording to the following Haw. Rev. Stat. § 291C-152 : Hawaii Statutes - Section 291C-152: Riding on motorcycles

(a) A person operating a motorcycle shall ride only upon the permanent and regular seat attached thereto, and such operator shall not carry any other person nor shall any other person ride on a motorcycle unless the motorcycle is designed to carry more than one person, in which event a passenger may ride upon the permanent and regular seat if designed for two persons, or upon another seat firmly attached to the motorcycle at the rear or side of the operator.

(b) A person shall ride upon a motorcycle only while sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg on each side of the motorcycle.

They where really looking at item "b"

This really sucks!!!

Dirtyrice,

Check for the label on the rear fender. Normally, it is in the lower front area.

Have you check with Hawaii Highway Patrol on the various rules and regulations? I have found them to be good relable experts.

Take care, we all miss you here in Southern California.

Dirty,

Keep it registered in California. Just use an address here. You are there temporarily, right? Wink

That really does suck!

Obviously rule b was made to stop motorcyclists from riding side saddle or sitting on the tank for stunt riding etc. and nothing to do with the T-Rex.

By the way, do they allow sidecars in HI? You should ask them how someone in a sidecar sits with one leg either side of the bike!!!

I wouldn't waste my time trying to register as a car though. It will be much more difficult than overcoming rule b.

It would never pass the side impact crash test, not to mention a dozen or so other saftey features required for a car. I'm sure that is why Campagna had to get it classified as a motorcycle.

We can all be thankful that motorcycles have been around as long as they have. Think about it! There probably isn't a government in the world that would allow them if they were invented for the first time today.

Good luck. I hope you can sort it out one way or another.

You probably just struck some pissed off government employee with an attitude, who interpreted the rule wrong.

Don't let them beat you!

Flash the military badge and wave them off. You're "testing" a vehicle for advancement in logistics.

Then bump your tunes and leave a 20 foot skidmark. Cool
